Koinonia Community Garden
Plant. Grow. Learn. Serve.
Share.
We
are a cooperative effort of members and volunteers. Koinonia
is a three-season garden. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and
flowers for ourselves and for donation to the local food pantry operated by CORA.
Our community is diverse, including members and volunteers from several
churches and the local community.
At
Koinonia, as we cooperate with nature we participate in Creation Care. We use
organic methods to build our soil through composting, mulching, and using
organic fertilizers. Our garden provides a sanctuary for pollinator insects
that make their homes in the garden.
The garden is open to persons of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities. We strive to
provide a garden experience that is accessible, safe, and fun.
Children
are welcome to participate in the garden with their parents. Youth can earn
service credits for their school by volunteering in the garden.

Our Membership:
Koinonia is an all-inclusive gardening community. Members of the garden and volunteers are not required to be members of a church. Anyone from the community is welcome to become a garden member. There are many tasks for varied skill levels and interests.
All ages are welcome!
Our Means:
Evergreen UMC hosts the site location and provides electric power, well water and restrooms. Koinonia is responsible for the costs of operating the garden. Purchase of seeds, supplies, and structures are funded by membership dues, fundraisers, Garden Angels, and other grant resources. Membership is $10 per season or $25 annual per family. Volunteers are always welcome and scholarships are available for persons who are unable to afford the membership fees.
Our Methods:
We all plant and harvest together. We seek to be responsible stewards of God's Creation by using sustainable techniques that preserve and improve our soil. We do not use petroleum-based chemical fertilizers or broad-spectrum herbicides and insecticides.
We practice mulching and composting to build and sustain the soil in our garden beds.
To the extent possible we use ergonomic, accessible, and energy-efficient tools.
Garden Managers are on hand on garden workdays to ensure a productive and fun experience. Garden members and volunteers bring their own bottled water, sunscreen, and insect repellent. The church restrooms are always available for use. Children are encouraged to garden with their parents and must be supervised by them for the child’s safety.
